Indispensable

The understanding that life will go on without us and at the same time, be responsible enough to carry out our duties in different spheres- striking that balance is hard. It’s hard because- if life goes on without us, shouldn’t we be let off the hook? Shouldn’t we be absolved of all our roles and responsibilities? What great are we doing if our absence wouldn’t call for fire-fighting? What value are we adding if people would merely pause for a moment in our absence and then get back to business as usual?

None of us is indispensable (at least not yet) but we are capable. And for that very reason, we need to keep showing up. We got to do what we got to do. Because if we don’t, nobody else will. Life, more importantly is the result of the meaning we give to it and not the other way round.
