And other business buzzwords

  1. When people talk about ideas in a meeting, say “let’s bucket these into blah, blah, and blah.” You’ll sound like a hero.
  2. When you don’t know what someone is talking about, ask for “more context.”
  3. If you don’t agree with something, say “we should think about the downstream impact of this decision.” Mhmm, nobody thought about that.
  4. When you don’t have time for something, tell people you don’t have the “bandwidth.” People will think you’re super busy and sophisticated.
  5. If you don’t know the answer, say “that’s not in my wheelhouse.”
  6. When you aren’t confident in your numbers, say “it’s directionally accurate.”
  7. When you’ve identified an opportunity that won’t take a lot of effort, call it “low hanging fruit.”

Seriously though, don’t. Everyday language is so underrated in business; just say what you mean.
