Pro tip: “Bucket” Things in Meetings

And other business buzzwords
- When people talk about ideas in a meeting, say “let’s bucket these into blah, blah, and blah.” You’ll sound like a hero.
- When you don’t know what someone is talking about, ask for “more context.”
- If you don’t agree with something, say “we should think about the downstream impact of this decision.” Mhmm, nobody thought about that.
- When you don’t have time for something, tell people you don’t have the “bandwidth.” People will think you’re super busy and sophisticated.
- If you don’t know the answer, say “that’s not in my wheelhouse.”
- When you aren’t confident in your numbers, say “it’s directionally accurate.”
- When you’ve identified an opportunity that won’t take a lot of effort, call it “low hanging fruit.”
Seriously though, don’t. Everyday language is so underrated in business; just say what you mean.
