The coronavirus sent the world of retail into a whirlwind. Grocery stores saw record-breaking numbers and felt the pain of mass curbside pickup orders long before they were ready. Other retailers saw their biggest click-and-collect days ever, with millions of people ordering online to pick up. Ecommerce stores of all sizes experienced year over year increases of 150% to over 400%.

This online shopping trend isn’t changing any time soon. In a new study by Klaviyo, just 26% of consumers who think physical stores will open at the end of this month plan to do most of their June shopping in person. Of those who believe restrictions won’t be lifted until July, that number drops to 18%.

It’s interesting that consumers who aren’t yet sure what will happen in their state are already thinking what experts say. As shoppers get more used to shopping primarily online, the action will become more permanent.

Chart shows that the longer orders are in place the more people are apt to shop mostly online.

Where people work and whether or not they have children affects shopping habits.
