Small Little Things: The First Snow

The first snow of the season is always a bed of exhilarating blanket that encompasses the entire world in its embrace.

I remember the first time I saw snow, it was like watching a pile of cottony goodness waiting to be held with care. The footprint that I left, still reverberate in my memories fresh as a daisy plucked just minutes before.

The snow when falling from the grey skies drops slowly before dancing around, awaiting its turn to melt in the soil, slowly approaching, waiting with open arms.

The simple act of watching snow fall and melt and create spikes around the edge of the leaves of a tree is a pleasure to watch.

The perfect crystals though difficult to view with naked eyes are a pattern that have inspired art since times immemorial.

Hexagonal in shape, the beautiful patterns stand firm on the adage “no two snowflakes are alike”. Many scientists and scholars disagree but considering the difficulty to prove otherwise the saying has stood tall the test of time.

The blue skies and chilly air prepare for the arrival of the first snow just after the end of autumn. As the last leaf falls from the tall tree so does the speck of the flurry from the sky.

Just watching the beautiful flakes fall from the clouds above is deliciously mesmerising, and when collected on the outstretched tongue gives a funny childlike pleasure.

Snowmen are common sculptures that bring out the divine artist in everyone on a lazy snow day, and binge watching comes creeping out from under the couch.

Hot cocoa is a guilty pleasure when snowed in and the long lost book-friends resurface. The nook becomes the favourite corner and after the day spent in making snow angels the warm blanket offers a cozy respite.

If we enjoy little things meticulously then we will see underneath the fast moving world lies a layer of forgotten things that truly bring pleasure to the desolate heart
