Burn Up What Is False today
“As I get older I see that running has changed for me. What used to be about burning calories is now more about burning up what is false. Lies I used to tell myself about who I was and what I could do, friendships that cannot withstand hills or miles, the approval I no longer need to seek, and solidarity that cannot bear silence. I run to burn up what I don’t need and ignite what I do.”
― Kristin Armstrong
Just for today…
Go for a run.
Not a runner?
Go for a long walk without looking at your phone. Bonus points if you don’t even listen to music.
Just be with your thoughts.
Sometimes it takes physical exertion to get us out of our heads.
Sometimes, the more strenuous the physical exertion, the further out of our heads we become.
Why do we want to get out of our heads?
- Because we lie to ourselves.
- Because we pretend we’re okay when we’re not.
- Because it’s one of the only ways we can gain perspective without getting altered (drugs, drinking, etc.)
What if I don’t feel like it?
Complacency is so nice. It’s easy. It’s safe.
- But -
- Complacency kills growth.
- Complacency kills ambition.
- Complacency is a false sense of security.
I know you don’t want to, but if you did want to — what would you do?
Do that today.
