This recipe is very easy to make with your kids. It doesn’t take long, so younger children shouldn’t get bored!

It’s a good way for children to practice using potato peelers and for older children to practice cutting up apples safely.

This is quite a healthy dessert because it contains two different types of fruit, including blueberries, which are very good for you.

I always keep the use of sugar to a minimum, but you could reduce it further or use a sugar substitute if you like.

My son and I made this recipe together on Sunday and we all enjoyed eating it with a dollop of custard on top!

Ingredients

6 large cooking apples or golden delicious applies

5 oz (150 g) blueberries

6 oz (170 g) plain flour

3 oz (75 g) butter or block margarine

3 oz (75 g) sugar, plus 1 tablespoon of sugar to add to the apples while cooking

1 oz (25 g) rolled oats (optional)

Method

1. Peel the apples using a potato peeler.
