10 easy steps to your publication’s first 10 followers
Do I have the technical ability to set up a Medium publication and follow it through? Would anyone read it? Do I even have the time?
These are just some of the questions that went through my mind before I decided to take the plunge and start a Medium publication in June 2019. By the middle of August, it had 10 followers.
That might not seem like a lot — and I know I still have a lot to learn about developing and growing a Medium publication — but I thought it would be useful to share my experience to encourage other writers, who are thinking of starting publications on Medium.
Here are the ten small steps I took to starting and growing a Medium publication to 10 followers — and how you can do it, too.
1. Choose a topic you’re passionate about
What kind of articles do you enjoy reading and writing? What interests do you have? What topics are you passionate about, rather than just mildly interested in?
Write a list of the broad topics that interest you greatly, such as:
- Technology
- Marketing
- Personal finance
