Today we’re talking with Drew Gray, CTO at Voyage, to do a deep dive on the state of deep learning in autonomous vehicle development. Voyage is an autonomous vehicle company focused on offering ride services to residential and other planned communities and campuses. Voyage currently operates in two retirement communities to offer residents safe, autonomous transportation anywhere in the community at speeds up to 25 MPH.

We review the state of development for the autonomous vehicle stack, the current state of deep learning and where it is used in the stack, and how reinforcement learning and end to end learning might be used in the future as the research improves.

We also discuss Deepdrive, a new Voyage project to advance research into the use of reinforcement and end to end learning for autonomous vehicles by sponsoring an open source simulator.
