Six initiatives related to 5G development in Moscow

Moscow is actively facilitating the introduction of the new generation of communications. Evgeniy Novikov, advisor of Deputy Director of DIT, about how the city helps to develop 5G, shared his expert opinion and named 6 projects which the department is handling.

Those initiatives are to accelerate 5G development in the city:

1. Research work on the impacts of 5G technology
At the initiative of DIT, one of the leading medical research institutes will proceed to the fundamental research on the impact of 5G technology on human health. The results will lay the basis for the regulations on the issue at the federal level.

2. Simplifying the deployment of communications equipment
DIT together with Rospotrebnadzor launched a pilot project aimed at simplifying the procedures for obtaining sanitary-epidemiological certificates and other documents, required for deployment of basic stations for mobile operators.

3. Urban Communications aesthetics
The city authorities are preparing a tender for developing requirements for the deployment of mobile network equipment in terms of architectural style. The criteria will define the look of the basic stations in order to make them fit in the architectural ensemble of the streets and buildings.

4. Pilot 5G areas in the city
DIT and the operators of the “big four” agreed on creating 5G pilot areas, some of which have already been opened, while the other areas are in the process of being established.

5. 5G demo center
At the beginning of 2020 5G demo center will be opened in the pavilion of DIT in VDNH. It will comprise the functions of the 5G-lab and a showroom. The purpose of creating the center was to search for cooperative business models for participants of different markets and create access for business customers to 5G technology for testing solutions, carrying out compatibility tests and functional debugging.

6. 5G knowledge base
DIT together with ICT.Moscow launched a special project on the development of new generation networks, it provides an opportunity to offer your ideas for testing new solutions. Different piloting experiences from all over the world are collected on the website, there is also a map of 5G pilot areas of Moscow and a lot of other related content.
