12 Months ago the Smart Platform Group team started a search for the perfect natural language understanding (NLU) platform to back enterprise software we are developing. In fact our original proof of concept software was built on what was then API.ai (now DialogFlow). We experimented with Wit.ai before it’s stories interface was removed, and we explored several other Platform as a Service offerings. We did all that before discovering Rasa NLU, an open source project backed by the Rasa team.

Since our discovery of Rasa NLU, it’s feature set has only grown and the Rasa team released their own Dialogue Management project called Rasa Core. We really enjoy being a part of the Rasa community and are impressed with all that their team has managed to accomplish.

A primary focus of the SPG team is simplifying the use of advanced systems and tools. Given that focus, when we worked with Rasa’s powerful command-line and API tools we were driven to implement a more accessable interface for NLU. With that we’d like to introduce Articulate.

Articulate makes it super easy to get up and running with Rasa NLU. You’ll be guided as you build and train your custom agent using our friendly and intuitive interface. For a quick demo of it’s functionality and what you can build with it check out the below video.

Thanks to Amanda Keller for recording the video. If you want to see a longer version with a more in depth look at how to use it try this one. There will be more videos and blogs to come!

You can download the latest release of Articulate on github with the link below.

If you want to know more details check out our documentation. We’re still writing a lot of it, but the basic installation instructions are complete. If you need additional help join us on our Gitter channel. Thanks for your interest in Articulate. We’re still building at a fast pace so if you have any trouble or want a specific feature, please open an issue and we can discuss it there.
