When I finally quit alcohol after 15+ years of damaging addiction, it was still extremely lame to be sober.

In fact, when I started writing here around the same time as I quit (a shade over 2 years ago), I focused frequently on the peer pressure and hostility I faced as I started my alcohol-free journey.

But a comment from a reader and a recent incident in my own life got me thinking.

Being sober may not exactly be cool now.

But is it possible that, at the very least, sobriety is now seen as … normal?

Let me tell you a story and you can let me know what you think.

Is drinking too much and acting like a goof still considered cool?

Is it still socially unacceptable to be sober?

Recently I wrote a piece titled “1 toxic decision is the real reason you can’t get fit over 40” that somehow became my most-read post ever.

It also generated a ton of comments, including this great one from reader MXM:

“I have been sober for over 25 years — since I was 35. I am never hung over and never impaired.

“A few years ago my college aged kids were at a concert together downtown.
