Life is hard. Over the last few years, mental health has suffered horribly throughout the country, with many people facing the loneliest periods of their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a MediVet study, 74% of pet owners have improved their mental health after owning a pet, and in Jo and Craig Cameron of West Sussex, you can see the most perfect example.

One-year-old Cockapoo, Belle, was taken in by the Cameron’s in the lead up to the first national lockdown, in an attempt to build companionship and boost mental health in the most difficult of times, when both were off of work and stuck inside their home.

Jo opens up about her anxiety struggles, and reveals how Belle has managed to take her focus away from unnecessary worries, as she now devotes her time to feeding, playing and looking after her.

Like Jo, 6 in every 100 people in the UK suffer from generalised anxiety disorders, and puppies like Belle can have a massive impact, lessening stress and worry and replacing it with focus and care for a fluffy friend.

Craig reflects on the time that they brought Belle home, and the instant impact her furry presence had on the family, lifting the mood and creating smiles and happiness. The couple never expected the magical bond that was created in the space of one year. A year that was so difficult for so many nationwide.
