Cash and card payments to return to Gosport car parks

In April 2023, Gosport Borough Council announced that the ticket machines in all but nine of the town’s car parks were to be switched off and replaced by mobile-only payments.

This change was said to save the taxpayer tens of thousands and be more straightforward and convenient.

However, by December of 2023 it was announced that payment machines were to return to twelve of the town’s car parks by March 2024.

The Liberal Democrat Council made the decision to switch the machines back on due to the change not being as well-received as they had hoped.

Many drivers, particularly the older generation, were dissatisfied with cash and card payments being removed, an option many still opt for.
