In March 2012, CD Projekt Red announced Cyberpunk 2077, but excited fans had to wait eight years, until December 10, 2020, for its anticipated release, just to be facing disappointment due to numerous, game-crashing bugs. This led to an 8% drop in CD Projekt Red shares and a class action lawsuit.

However, in 2022, the animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix started to revive the lost interest, followed by a sequel announcement for the game in October.

“Phantom Liberty” released on September 26, 2023, with a new and free update, marked a turning point. Despite its rocky start, Cyberpunk’s journey illustrates the resilience of a gaming universe that captivates audiences, hinting at a future cyberpunk-themed game by CD Projekt.
