Pub sheds (or “garden bars”) are not new to Britain, but throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, their popularity has soared.

Kevin Mashembo’s pre-pandemic dreams of constructing a pub in his garden in Cornwall were heightened when lockdown hit and real pubs started to close.

Kevin built the pub shed from scratch, using DIY skills he’s gathered over the years. The cost of building the pub (which is kitted out with a bar, fridge, LED lights, Wi-Fi connection and plenty of decorations) was under £2000. Money was saved by using some repurposed materials and fixtures.

However, the joy of a garden bar is that there are no rules. A private bar space can be created with just a shed and some imagination.
