Since the the war, the lives of many Ukrainians have changed completely. So has Lena’s, who had to flee her home in Kiev at the age of 20. She has been living with her mother in the German city of Stuttgart for a year. Lena had to leave her home, her friends and her family behind. Like over one million other Ukrainian refugees who have come to Germany since the beginning of the war, Lena has to rebuild her life from scratch without knowing when or if she will ever be able to return to her old home. I spent a day with Lena and talked to her about her escape, her fears and her new life in Germany.
