The travel and tourism industry is worth £250 billion to the UK economy. However, the high-profile workforce shortages in the travel industry have not stopped the government’s plans to defund the BTEC Travel and Tourism qualification. The sector relies on its pipeline of future talent, and with industry vacancy rates at an all-time high, the scrap of the BTEC qualification will hit the direct line of talent for employers. The government has said to scrap funding for the course by 2025, with no plans to replace the qualification with T-Levels.
Amy Land, who has worked in the travel industry for ten years and is currently working as a travel and tourism lecturer, gives an insight into the industry and what she believes the future is for young adults wanting to study the course in the future.
