Girls Who Walk Portsmouth is a student-led female walking group, determined to take back control of their safety through friendship and community support. Started in late 2023, the group has found remarkable success, welcoming large turnouts to their events and even garnering press attention.

The Office for National Statistics estimated that between 2022–23, 7.9 million people had experienced sexual assault, with the overwhelming majority of the victims being female. The group is passionate about changing this, teaming up with EPOWAR, a new safety app using wearable technology to detect when someone is being attacked.

I sat down with owners Isabella Spicer, Isobel Cattle and Daisy Hobman to find out more about the group.
