Anxiety is a mental health disorder that is characterized by feelings of worry, fear, and unease. It is the most common mental health disorder in the United States, affecting over 18% of the population. While anxiety can be debilitating for some people, it can also be helpful in motivating and preparing people for difficult situations.

Anxiety is often seen as a negative emotion, but it can also be helpful in some ways. It can be a sign that you’re paying attention to something and care about it.

I, personally, know what anxiety is way too well. Here are some of my favourite quotes about anxiety that will change the way you think about this often misunderstood condition:

  1. “The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.” — William James
  2. “Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom.” — Soren Kierkegaard
  3. You don’t have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you.” — Dan Millman
  4. You can’t always control what goes on outside. But you can always control what goes on inside.” — Wayne Dyer
  5. When I look back on all these worries, I remember the story of the old man who said on his deathbed that he had had a lot of trouble in his life, most of which had never happened.” — Winston Churchill
  6. “You must learn to let go. Release the stress. You were never in control anyway.” — Steve Maraboli
  7. You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” — Maya Angelou
  8. “Worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere.” — Erma Bombeck
  9. “The way you tell your story to yourself matters.” — Amy Cuddy
  10. “Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength.” — Charles Spurgeon
  11. “Be brave. Even if you’re not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference” — Jackson H. Brown Jr.
  12. “I will breathe. I will think of solutions. I will not let my worry control me. I will not let my stress level break me. I will simply breathe. And it will be okay because I don’t quit.” — Shayne McClendon
  13. “Most things I worry about never happen anyway.” — Tom Petty
  14. “People become attached to their burdens sometimes more than the burdens are attached to them.” — George Bernard Shaw
  15. “Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
  16. “Sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives put us directly on the path to the most wonderful things that will ever happen to us.” — Nicole Reed

Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe. It is a normal reaction to stress and can be helpful in some situations. However, when anxiety becomes overwhelming and persistent, it can interfere with daily life.

These quotes will help you look at your anxiety and frequent stress differently and hopefully soothe your nerves.

It’s important not to get consumed by it, and to go for help if you need it.
