Registering to Vote is as Easy as Texting a Friend

Election Day is just weeks away, and if you haven’t yet registered to vote you may be feeling some serious FOMO on Nov 8. Don’t pass up your chance to #ChimeIn for Election 2016!

If you’re a procrastinating resident of Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Texas, time is running out fast. In many states, you must be registered to vote at least 30 days before an election to be eligible to vote. For residents of those states, that means you’ve got until Sunday, Oct. 9 to register if you want to cast your ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Other states’ deadlines are approaching fast as well.

The good news — registering to vote is as easy as texting a friend. In the age of the smartphone, you can now register to vote on Snapchat in one minute, or through HelloVote, a chatbot that helps you register just a few hot seconds over SMS. You can also register at vote.org and vote.gov, the official government site. With so many options for getting registered, you have no excuse for sitting this one out.

If you’re a resident of Colorado, Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, and Wyoming you can register to vote right up till election day at your polling location. Just be sure you’re prepared with a proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, electric bill or other ID card.

For a full list of registration deadlines, check out Rock the Vote’s voter registration page. Remember: if you don’t register, you can’t #ChimeIn.

So what are you waiting for? You can register to vote faster than it took to read this post. Do it now by texting HelloVote.
