With the Bumblebee update, you can wirelessly connect your physical device with Android Studio and therefore run your app hassle-free.

Run App using Wi-Fi: Android Studio to your physical device without any cable.

Prior to this update, there were ways you could run the app wirelessly, but Android Studio officially did not show any buttons in the AVD manager to run the app in such a manner.

Three criteria to make this magic happen:

  1. Update Android Studio. This feature applies to the Bumblebee version onwards.
  2. Your physical device should have at least Android 11.
  3. Your PC and your device should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Now, follow the steps as mentioned below.

Okay, open Android Studio > Device Manager > Physical Tab

Click on “Pair using Wi-Fi” button.

The following window will come up.

Leave this window open and now, on your physical Android device navigate to Developer Options from your Settings app.

Developer Options > Wireless Debugging > Pair Device with QR Code

Make sure Wireless Debugging option is turned on.

IMAGE 2

On clicking “Pair Device with QR Code” as shown in IMAGE 2, the camera app will open up.

Scan the QR code as shown in IMAGE 1 in your Android Studio.

Bingo! You are done!

Run your app and have fun!

What to do if your camera fails to open? i.e. you are unable to scan the QR code.

Well, in that case, you can use the alternative “Pair device with pairing code” option as shown in IMAGE 2 (just below the QR code option).

Once you tap on that option, it will display a 6 digit code.

Next, you need to click on the “Pair using Pairing code” option in the Android Studio window which was previously displaying the QR code.

Enter that 6 digit code and click on the “Pair” button.

Bingo! You are connected!

Run the app and of course, have fun.

One clap, two claps, three claps…. Forty!
