400+ premium mockups with advanced features inside one desktop app with 3K users in 6 months.
It’s been almost a year since we launched our first online version of Smartmockups. It was and still is a free online platform where you can create great product mockups and present your digital projects such as websites, mobile apps or tools placed in realistic environment. Everything is super easy, online and free of charge. We don’t even ask you for your e-mail.
Few months after this we also built and launched the Smartmockups App. Desktop app for Windows and MacOS with hundreds of premium mockups besides all the free from our online version. This app has some pretty amazing features, more categories, better rendering quality and overall it's a much higher level than the basic online version of Smartmockups.
The last few months we’ve been working on this little bastard and were delivering new content, features and bug fixes to its users. Now we're at the stage of finishing all these major updates so I think it's a great time to write some new article where you can find all the most important features we've been working on.
Digital & Print categories
Yes. Instead of just few categories you can see on the free website, our app handles much more content and categories. We split all digital mockups into two categories according whether it is a photo mockup or isolated device with changeable background.
The second category are print mockups where you can find some business cards, stationery, posters & flyers and advertisement category with other templates. This part is getting a huge update in the upcoming months so there will be much more content and new mockups added.
Isolated devices and responsive sets
As I mentioned above, we added over 200 professional isolated 3D renders with changeable device color and background. Each device has number of different angles and colors as it has in real life so for example iPhone 7 goes with black, jet black, silver, gold and rose gold color.
You can also choose one of our 30+ pre-made responsive scenes to showcase your responsive website or other project within multiple screens.

Photoshop & Sketch
As so many people create their design in Photoshop and Sketch we wanted to improve the workflow so we added a PSD and Sketch files integration. What does that mean? It means that you don’t have to export your design into JPG or PNG to showcase it in our app. Now you can simply drag&drop the whole PSD or Sketch file, select the artboard you want to showcase and our app do the rest. Cool, right?
There are still some improvements so we have a file size limit for PSD that cannot be bigger than 14K pixels in total. Hope this limitation will be fixed soon and you will be able to import as huge PSDs as you want.
Changeable background
With all transparent mockups there goes the option for changeable background. You can select a plain color, add a beautiful radial or linear gradient or even select the background image.
The background image option is available only in smartphone-in-hand mockups so far but we're working on more backgrounds for more categories.
Cropper and sharing
You can freshly crop the final image right before you export so if you need a square, 4:3, 16:9 or any other aspect ratio just select the one you need and crop the selection. You can also set your own dimensions of the image.
We're working on sharing module as well that let's you share your created image on facebook, twitter, pinterest, dribbble and much more. This feature will be available in upcoming months as we have to test all the platforms so you will get a working feature without errors.
Youzign integration
Are you a Youzign user? If so, you can showcase your designs right from the Smartmockups App. Simply enable the integration, login with your Youzign API key and select the design from the mockup detail. After uploading just cropp the selection and the app will do the rest.
Pretty amazing features delivered in few months, right?! And that’s just the beginning… We’re continuously working on new mockups and features so our users always get the best mockup app available on the market.

New print mockups
The print category will get some major improvements and new content. Many new business cards, posters and stationery mockups are on the way!
New digital mockups
We're looking for some new mockups almost every day. In case we find some premium mockups that deserves to be in the app, we'll do our best to deliver them as soon as possible.
New plans for teams
At the beginning we thought that our main users will be freelancers but with over 3000 customers now we see that also agencies, teams and companies are using our tool on daily basis. As we want to keep these users happy we're working on subscription plans for teams, shared accounts and much more.
New trial version
Our current trial version needs some improvements as well. We will delete the huge watermark and give each new user number of free downloads without any limitations. It means that you don’t have to buy the app but you can still create a bad-ass promotional materials on demand.
More integrations
Youzign integration is just the beginning. We would love to integrate other services in the future like for exmaple InVision, Marvel App, Canva and other great tools. Stay tuned!
API
The biggest challenge we set for the upcoming months is to create our own API. With API more businesses and tools could join our mockups and let their users present digital projects at the highest level.
