March is Women’s History Month, and we’re celebrating it with women filmmakers.

Epiosde 177 of the SBP Podcast Mobile Filmmaking.

SBP Podcast Mobile Filmmaking, Episode 177 “Franchise Filmmaking with Allison Lobel, Diane Foster and Kelly Grant” is available in your favorite podcasting app. You can listen online or download the MP3 to listen anytime, anywhere — offline.

It’s a big undertaking to create a film franchise but these women filmmakers and actors are determined and on their way to succeed at one of the biggest challenges for independent filmmakers.

It’s a real honor to share the story of how three women went from conception to creating a soon to be cult classic. March 26, to be exact. That’s when you can watch “Easter Bloody Easter” on VOD.

Watch the movie and the trailer.

Synopsis: “The film follows Jeanie (Foster), who, after discovering her husband missing and his car wrecked with blood and fur, embarks on a journey with her friend Carol to uncover the truth behind the town’s dark legend of the killer Jackalope — a shapeshifting human-rabbit hybrid that terrorized the area a century and a half ago. Now, Jeanie and Carol must team up with professional bunny slayer Megan to save their small Texan town — on the eve of celebrating “Easter-palooza” — and stop the Jackalope once and for all.”

I met Allison Lobel at the International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego last year. Allison was a protagonist for Levi Austin Morris’ feature film, “Paralysis.” Perhaps one of the best feature films shot with a smartphone I’ve had the pleasure of seeing. The film won the Best Feature Film Award 2023 at the festival.

Allison wrote “Easter Bloody Easter” in 2020, during the pandemic.

Diane shares how creating a film franchise is a commitment that goes well beyond distribution. It’s been a four year journey that is only just beginning. Diane says you must believe in your film and feel confident, to succeed.

Allison Lobel, Diane Foster and Kelly Grant starred in the horror comedy feature film by WallyBird Productions which will change Easter for many cult film fans and geeks, forever. The film is Diane’s directorial debut. Kelly and Allison are also producers.

The production took 17 long days to film. When you listen to the discussion in episode 177, you’ll hear the fulfilled laughter and giddiness. Their film was picked up by Gravitas Ventures and will be available to stream March 26, just in time for Easter!

Watch “Easter Bloody Easter” VOD and fall in love with this new cult classic. Watch the trailer.

Diane Foster’s courage to direct and act in a feature film is rewarded with a newfound love for directing and acting in more films. Truly inspiring.

But like any good franchise, there was a strategy behind it. One that they are still building on with creative merchandise and marketing. Listen to the show to get all the details and listen to their stories about the process and strategy behind the film.

Two articles about the film are Bloody Disgusting and Variety
