When I met Michael Harlow, it was what began as a random phone call from someone in San Diego asking a question about filming with an iPhone.

Back in 2011-ish, I was used to receiving such calls due to my constant calls everywhere I could online, for films shot with mobile phone cameras for the pioneer International Mobile Film Festival based in San Diego.

Michael told me a story that I found quite captivating. A story of a discovery he made while scuba diving. He shared a secret with me, one I kept to myself until January 2021 when I invited him on my podcast to reveal his secret: the discovery of a crystal dive mystery.

Michael shares this story in this episode of the podcast. If you’re interested in being a part of the mystery and film the story, contact Michael.

A few weeks ago, Michael reached out to me looking for a diving case for his iPhone so he could dive deep with sharks and film it. Well, that’s not the whole story, but if you think that’s adventurous — wait ‘till you hear the rest of the story!

Michael is turning 57 years old August 25th and he told his family that what he wanted for his birthday was to spend that weekend in the adventure of his life!

Michael Harlow believes that we can all live a life worth living. He is setting off on a mission to convince everyone to set a date on our calendars with a challenge, because life is short. I’ve known Michael for years now, and I’ve tried to keep up with all his travel adventures.

The Adventure Travelers with Michael and Melissa Harlow. Their blog shares many of their stories.

But I must admit, that’s a challenge in itself. So when he shared his “57 Adventures in 57 Hours in San Diego” challenge, I was intrigued.

The adventure begins Friday, August 23rd at 1PM (PDT) by jumping off an airplane and it will be, pretty much nonstop, all over the county of San Diego for 57 hours. Listen to episode 194 of the SBP Podcast to find out more details, including where and how the marathon ends on August 25th.

Michael’s family will be his team following him along and documenting the marathon on “almost” live social media. Melissa will be filming it with the iPhone to create a documentary which they will submit to the 14th Edition of the International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego. They will attend IMFF April 25th through the 27th.

Listen to an inspiring conversation and perhaps mark a date in your calendar to achieve your own challenging adventure, and document it with your smartphone as a film.
