At the start of every new year people feel inspired to change and grow but it usually doesn’t last past the 2nd week in January…

This was written for the people out there seeking real change who aren’t afraid to work, fail & grow.

1. Focus On Less

“The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus.” -Bruce Lee

Focus is in short supply today. Rather than adding 2 more tasks to your to-do-list, try to take 2 tasks off. Be very critical about what you spend your time on because you can never get it back.

A good practice is to audit your time usage every day and identify the 3 most important tasks you completed. After a month, you will be able to clearly see what tasks are most critical and start to prioritize them appropriately.

Double down on what moves the needle.

2. Be More Patient

“Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.” -Napoleon Hill

We live in an instant gratification world. Every other advertisement you see on Facebook is another 18 year old who’s sitting on a beach somewhere telling you that success is just a couple of clicks away.

I have news for you — overnight success is a myth.

Persistence over a long period of time is what creates greatness. It’s easy to do well and be motivated when you first start but true winners finish. Compound interest is a beautiful thing.

3. Spend More Time Building Relationships

“The richest people in the world look for and build networks, everyone else looks for work.” -Robert Kiyosaki

Your network is by far your most valuable asset. A vastly different life is a single connection away and you have the power to make it happen.

Focus on giving and caring — these are the kind of people that attract others like a magnet. Humans have an innate ability to sense authenticity so don’t be someone you’re not.

Your emotional intelligence (EQ) is more important than your IQ.

4. Plan & Measure More

“A goal without a plan is just a wish.” -Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

We spend a lot of time talking about action but action alone is not enough. A good plan must be set to assure your time is well spent. You also must figure out a way to objectively measure your progress so that you can reiterate and launch again quickly and easily.

Simplicity is the key — create a simple plan, with simple metrics and you’ll be much more likely to actually achieve your goals.

5. Enjoy The Little Things

“Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things.” -Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Life is short. Don’t take yourself too seriously & understand that your days are numbered. Keep your eye on the prize but don’t forget to enjoy the process.

After all… the end goal for all of us is to be happy & fulfilled — don’t let that get out of sight.
