E-influencers: A Must for Press Officers

The emergence of new social medias, such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter or Instagram, changed the way press officers do their work. The work is still the same, they still have to convince influencers to talk about their press release, their company or their product, but the actors have changed. Those new e-influencers are web users who have the capacity to gather a lot of people around their opinion through the use of social medias or with their blog.

As we’ve seen, time has passed since journalists were the only actors press officer had to reach.

It is important for a press officer to be aware of this new target, which is becoming as important as journalists, if not more important, to spread informations about their company. Nonetheless, there is different type of e-influencers that can be distinguished.

Celebrities and internet stars are the most followed people online, they are a gateway to a very large public, and they usually are the pioneer of the new trends.

The new e-influencers can also be experts in a certain field, their voices are considered as reason and they are an important target to reach if they have an influence on your company, or on its sells. Their audience, although smaller than for other influencers, is really invested into this expertise field and the expert’s voice weight a lot in the balance.

Last but not least e-influencers are consum’actors, or people who don’t accept passively goods and services he or she consumes, they make consumption a political act. When they have a strong community, they can change the perception consumers have on a product, their influence can lead to a boycott of a product, which make them key actors in press relations.

E-influencers are now in the center of digital strategies. An active strategy tries to make people talk about their product online, while a passive strategy is just a surveillance of what is said about this product in order to act depending on that.

The digital environment is a land of risks but also of opportunities, so it is important to act on it, but it starts by knowing the actors of the game.
