1- Each social network has its own content

  • Different social networks have varying purposes, either to post or to read, in different formats that can be targeted to different audiences. All content posted on Twitter will not be relevant on Facebook or Instagram and vice versa. It is necessary to distinguish the usage of every social media to post relevant content.

Twitter

This is an avenue that is used to relay the latest news in real time. Really useful during crisis, this medium helps to communicate information quickly. Twitter can be useful to always follow the latest trends and to react quickly to it.

Facebook

Instagram

Instagram can and should be your main social network. Nowadays it’s the favorite social media of millennials and the easiest to use for a brand because you can really present the best version of your brand on it. You have several possibilities to be creative, share and keep the best pictures and news of the brand. Emphasize, promote and add value to your brand and your products.

LinkedIn

This social media is used to share institutional information about the company.

Pinterest

Pinterest is a useful presentation tool that allows one to see products under its best angle. Creating boards on a Pinterest account facilitates the sharing of specific products to partners or clients.

2- Link your posts to a Landing page

  • Posts on social media are usually short and do not contain all the information the readers and journalists might need or want. It is important to include a link to a landing page on which the readers can find all of the information and also have an easy access to other of your publication. This practice will show more transparency, it will allow journalists to have more information they could need if they want to relate the information and it will increase traffic on your website.

3- Try to engage your target

  • Make sure that your audience will react to what you are producing. Ask them questions about themselves and their opinion so that they will be tempted to reply. Then you will get an active audience. This is very important to be known on social media and to increase the reach of your brand on Internet later on.

4- Time is key

  • In case of crisis, one needs to react as fast as possible to the situation and give their opinion on it. With the internet and especially social networks, all the information is spread instantly anywhere. It completely changed the way information gets spread around. The faster one is, the more relevant they will be. People appreciate promptness, leaning towards those who give these quick updates.

5- Make relevant content for your audience

  • Make sure that all of the content one posts is relevant to the specific audience. One may need to focus more on quality over quantity. If ones content is not relevant maybe one will reach many people with the first publication. But, if what one is saying is not interesting, people will not be interested. This is the reason one needs to make the best content possible from the first article to make sure users will regularly check ones accounts and stay interested with the latest publications.

6- Newsjacking

  • Newsjacking can be a very effective way to expand ones audience and attract attention on social media. This marketing practice consist in communicate quickly using a mediatized trending topic. This involves being ahead of what is trending, what trends are relevant to your audience and what point of view they have on the subject.
  • This practice can have harmful impacts if one doesn’t handle it well. It can cause backlash on ones company, such as the Kendal Jenner campaign for Pepsi.

7- Expand your network online

  • By creating ones own professional accounts and follow many people that can be considered interesting for the company ; journalists, CEOs, brands and of course, bloggers and influencers. A specified target can be reached with specified content. Not neglecting these influencers is important, as finding an influencer interested in the company might be able to bring in their own followers. This may happen if they are ready to talk about it online.
