Universal Empolyee as a Special Guest on the New Podcast, Pressing Matters

Welcome to the newest podcast, Pressing Matters, where we dive deep into the world of Press officers all over the world. On this episode of Pressing Matters we are talking with an employee from Universal Music Group Spain, Laura Encabo Martorell. We are delighted to get an international perspective and how media and press work there. Come back next time to get a perspective from another country. Will they differ as much as you think?

As our content is international, this Podcast is in Spanish BUT we have the translation over here. Come and read it!

Presenter: Good morning, Laura, thank you very much for talking to us a little bit about Universal and its relationship with media.

Laura: No problem, I´d love to.

Presenter: We wanted to mention one example of how the relationship between the media and companies works, so here you are.

Laura: As a personal experience in Universal Music Spain, as it´s an international business I supose It may have different models in its several countries. But the figure of a press officer doesn´t really exist. I think that the person who represents the company facing the world is the person who works on the social networks. But it’s not very common that the company has to be represented with the real media or press. The little communication that is done with the artists are done in the promotions departments of the company.

Presenter: But, what if the company has a really important notice to tell, how would they comunicate?

Laura: I think that if that happens we will comincate the notice through the social networks and the news letter.

Presenter: How have people given more importance to the social networks than to the press?

Laura: The issue is that I believe that they are the same thing. I think that someone receiving the message through the social networks is as important as the public or the press recieving it. Just because that comunication is so fluid. Nowadays that communications is done publicly, for example when the press talks about a company, they do publicly and they upload it as a tweet or as a Facebook post. So I think that the answer to all the staff comes directly from these social networks. With this, I don’t believe that the press is set aside. It’s just that the new enviroment where communication is developing right now is in social networks.

Presenter: Great, Laura, thank you very much.

Laura: Thanks to all of you.
