We just released a major update to the Smile Identity portal! We are bringing some powerful and long-awaited new functionality and features to the ID verification ecosystem.

Since launching Smile Identity nearly 3 years ago our vision has been to build trusted customer ecosystems by empowering you to trust your customers and expand access.

We kept building on top of this vision as we grew; adding more functionality, optimizing verification processes and improving our facial recognition.

Today, we’re excited to introduce Smile Identity Artificial Intelligence and KYC Results pages. We’ve been working on these for over a month, and they were built to provide transparency so key decision-makers can create custom business logic that balances compliance with customer satisfaction.

What’s New?

1. Smile ID Artificial Intelligence

We understand our clients want to onboard users quickly but have unique KYC requirements specific to their business.

While people want simple and quick decisions, a one size fits all approach does not work. As a key decision-maker, you need to control the business logic for accepting each new on-boarded user — and you decide what qualifies as acceptable KYC or not.

To put the power back in your hands we now provide the full list of KYC actions or checks, that we perform for each user so that your risk and product teams can decide how much risk you want to take on each account, and what specific KYC checks you require. We still provide Result Codes (approved or rejected) so you can make a quick decision based on our intelligence if you don’t want to dig into the details.

But our new Smile Identity Artificial Intelligence pages give you a full breakdown of identity verification checks (ie. Selfie registered, ID Validated, Liveness checked, etc), in both code and visual icons so your engineering and product teams can work in synch to establish special customer journeys depending on the fact pattern for each user.

2. Job Metadata

We added a metadata section to provide all the parameters for a particular Job or Action that we performed. You can also see the specific device that was the source of activity, among other details.

3. Image Data

ID photo verification is an integral part of our KYC services and authentication services. We can detect in real-time whether the person associated with a government ID number or pictured on a government-issued ID card (e.g. Voter’s card, National Identity card etc) is the same person in the selfie photo provided by the user real-time. Further, our trademarked SmartSelfie™ image capture technology ensures that the image is of a live person and deters spoofing attacks like stolen photos or videos.

4. ID Data

We’ve added a section to show the Government ID Authority Response where applicable for all ID validations. We also now show user-provided information in the Result page so that you can see how they compare. These two sets of data are provided side by side via tabs. This helps you understand what specific data is coming from which ID authority providers and how that compares to the ID information a user presented.

What’s next?

Building on these new KYC Results pages, our plan is to support more ID types across all African countries and add more datasets to the analysis.

Our mission is to empower anyone to be able to prove their identity easily, regardless of the origin of their ID card or the IP Address on their device.
