On November 30, the Smilo team presented the Smilo Platform during a blockchain pitch competition at the Digital Freedom Festival in Riga. The outcome was great! We won a short track to CVVC’s Labs incubation program in Zug and met many interesting people.

This was the fourth edition of the Digital Freedom Festival in Riga, Latvia. An eclectic two day event filled with presentations, workshops and pitch competitions around the subject of digital innovation, sustainability, privacy, human interaction, AI, blockchain and machine learning. The Smilo presentation

One of the new and special events at the Digital Freedom Festival was the Investors Day on Friday the 30th of November. A special business lounge sponsored by PNB Banka organised a series of four adjacent pitch competitions, organised by reputable accelerators 500 Startup and Rockstart as well as a blockchain pitch competition organised by the business incubator team of the University of Latvia.

Together with eight other blockchain related startups, Smilo was given the opportunity to pitch its concept in front of a room full of investors, advisors and press. The jury consisted of the Managing director of PNB Banka Latvia, Mr Oliver Bramwell, Gil & Karen Devora from The Floor Hub, Tel Aviv and Pavel Jakovlev from CVVC, Zug, Switzerland. Together with CryptoPolice and Files.fm, Smilo was granted the honour of winning a short track to CVVC Labs, a 125.000 euro plus 3 month incubation program in Zug in March 2019, a wonderful opportunity both financially as well as becoming part of the extensive and high profile blockchain ecosystem of Crypto Valley Venture Capital.

CVVC Labs incubation program

For ten weeks, the selected teams will be coached by the blockchain pioneers and entrepreneurs, such as Luis Cuende (Aragon), Stephan Karpischek (Etherisc), Mona El Isa (Melonport) and others. Mentors and experts will work directly with the startups, helping them progress, reflect, adjust and deliver on their vision.

The program’s several building blocks focus on establishing effective and decentralized teams, strategies, the latest blockchain technology, tokenomics, fundraising, marketing and PR, community management and much, much more. Meetups and events will enable startups to exchange ideas with thought-leaders and trailblazers from the global blockchain community.

Already over 180 startups have applied to this attractive program, which will select 20 startups in total, focussing on making those 20 most innovative, business wise and groundbreaking startups a success in their fields through funding, knowledge and access to CVVC’s reputable global network. Why were we there?

Smilo platform was invited by the organisation for their privacy and transparency proposition. The Smilo blockchain platform was created from the vision that in today’s world, individuals are becoming the moral gatekeepers of our society. They are increasingly critical on the lack of transparency of public organisations, while they also worry about their privacy being safeguarded properly. This digital privacy issue was one of the key subjects on the Digital Freedom Festival and as such the offering of Smilo was relevant to the theme of the event.
