It’s always a great time to hike or bike in Clay County. There are some really great options, such as the Jackrabbit Mountain Bike and Hiking Trail. It’s a system of trails that spans across 15 miles in total, starting with the 3-mile Central Loop with trails diverging off from there. You’ll see the many sides of Lake Chatuge and the sights of the mountains in the distance.

Another great stop to step on the brakes is Fires Creek Recreation Area in Nantahala National Forest at the base of a beautiful but short cascade of 25 feet. On top of that, you have the Quanassee Path, which is much more than just a walk in the park. This trail provides information about the Cherokee history with five different unique sites to visit: the Cherokee Homestead Exhibit, the Clay County Historical & Arts Museum, Cherokee Cultural Center, Spikebuck Mound/Quanassee Town site, and Cherokee Botanical Sanctuary. Go ahead, take a hike!
