Social MOOC Taker (http://smoocer.com/) is a group learning tool to make e-learning more engaging. Here are our latest update and learnings!

Firstly, we’re super excited about our second version. After testing Version 1 on an Iversity course, we launched Version 2 of our product yesterday based on all the amazing suggestions we got from users.

Here are some screenshots of the team playing with the latest version:

Some things we learnt about social features and engagement in e-learning..

1. E-learners don’t want the same social interactions online as they’d get in a classroom. They need something more hands off that gives them the choice to be as involved as they wish to be.

2. We noticed that a lot of our users continue to engage with their group on our app even when they’re on hiatus from their course. While watching lectures and going through course content requires focussed attention for a chunk of time, chatting with their peer group on their cell phones takes a few seconds and not as much focus, so they continue to do it.

3. Lastly, we’ve started to test our product on some non MOOC e-learning platforms this month to see how their users respond. MOOCs are not the only e-learning platforms that suffer from low engagement rates. Most e-learning platforms face the same problem in varying magnitudes.

Do you have any favourite e-learning platforms (language apps, coding platforms, etc) we should speak to?

As always, we’re excited to hear your feedback. Email us at hello@smoocer.com or leave a response below.
