“Cheating in chess-A major problem faced”
Cheating is the worst thing to do while playing any sport.It opposes the very spirit of a sportsman.
Cheating in chess has always existed as a threat to the game but the issue got popular recently after the Carlsen-Neimann.Magnus Carlsen is the current world champion of chess and Hans Neimann is an American teen chess grandmaster.
Recently at the prestigious event of Sinquifield Cup 2022 hosted by Saint Louis Club in U.S.A,Hans defeated Carlsen with the black pieces which was really fascinating and super rare at the same time becuase Carlsen very rarely loses a game with white. pieces.After this game,Carlsen left the tournament without stating any reasons leaving thousands of questions behind.

After this incident many started accusing Hans of cheating leading to Carlsen leaving the tournament and at the same time there were supoorters of Hans too.In the interview after his game with Carlsen,Neimann acted weirdly and the moves he suggested were really bad which led to more people accusing Hans of cheating.He couldn’t remember the moves he played during the game which led to more accusations.Also during the interview he stated that till the 20th move of the game it was his prepration.This raised questions becuase Carlsen had never played the opening which he played in the game ever before.This raised more suspicion though he had given reasons for the same.

The security got stricter in the tournament especially for Hans.After beating Magnus he lost his first match of the tournament.He didn’t win a single game after it which led to accusations that to prove himself innocent Hans played bad on purpose.He had earlier cheated in online tournaments during the pandemic which he confessed due to which he was banned several times by the online chess platform chess.com.He is still banned on this website.Though there were many accusations but there was no proof of Hans cheating during the tournament and also Carlsen leaving the tournament without stating any reason made this a widespread issue on social media.After some days there was a rematch of Hans VS Carlsen in which Carlsen resigned after the 1st move of the game.As the days passed,Carlsen finally made a statement on twitter expressing his views on the issue.

After this the International Chess Federation(FIDE)has started looking into this matter and detailed analysis are made on Neimann’s previous record.Neimann’s rating(in chess rating starts from 1000 to 2800s which is max)has increased a lot.Within a year he gained 300 elo points of rating and jumped from 2400s to 2700s.Though it looks strange but there are no evidences yet and it could be the result of his hardwork too which he states in almost all his interviews.
Cheating in chess is indeed sad to hear.It just makes the sport unfair and of no fun.A person giving his best to win and the other one using computer engines to win is really unfair and shouldn’t exist.Soon the FIDE will announce its decision on this matter and the truth shall be revealed.
