A Moment On Earth #3

May your future orders of fresh coconut juice look like a large, carrot muffin. You know, the white frosted type, but with straw stuck dead center. Sounds weird but I mean it.

The year is 2016. The place, a family dessert shop in Southern Thailand. My wife ordered a coconut juice. It’s a popular and refreshing beverage here, of course. When it came to the table, we were both surprised and wondered if the order was mistaken for someone else’s crazily, oversized muffin.

My wife, a former local of the town, picked up on it right away and giggled from the wiggle of the coconut meat encasing the sloshing juice — like a cloud a chubby cherub would be rocked to sleep.

We both kept poking the white top in amusement as it wobbled side to side. I wondered what deft machette skills one must have to cut a coconut this way.

Then came the grinning stares from the rest of our party and strangers at other tables. We smiled around, then sipped. Oh yeah, cold coconut juice, refreshing…
