I’ve had the pleasure to visit the inside of the U.S. Capitol building several times in my life. The last was in 2019. During that visit and a visit in 2012, our family members were allowed entrance to the tunnels running under the building there between the House’s Longfellow Office Building.

The “tunnels” are long hallways that run underneath the buildings to provide easy access for our members of Congress to get where they are going fast (and avoid the streets where they might be subject to any number of delays).

We were there for an art exhibit and the finals for the National History Day competition but those are other stories. This is about the Capitol Building itself.

We were also allowed in the Senate Chambers in 2011. This, again, was part of a special tour and was somewhat rushed because our tickets were at the end of the day.

What remains foremost in my memories is the beauty of this building.
