Big, Bold and Beautiful
Some impressive blooms in all their glory
I’m amazed how some flowers come in all shapes and sizes and yet each still has incredible beauty. Even gigantic blooms are elegant and graceful. I was fortunate to capture some large beauties in the last couple of weeks and of course, couldn’t resist photographing them.
The hibiscus was at the local market. They are common in tropical countries but they do like our summer temperatures if kept indoors until the colder weather has disappeared. It’s a shame their exotic blooms only last a few days, but most plants produce several buds, ensuring a constant display.
These hydrangeas were also at the market. They always remind me of my Dad’s garden growing up as he had an abundance of them. The colour of the flower depends on the pH of the soil.
Acidic soil with a pH of 6.0 or lower produces blue flowers and neutral to alkaline soil with a pH of 7.0 or higher produces pink blooms. Source
I also love the tree hydrangeas. A friend gifted me six of them years ago when she was moving back to New Zealand and I managed to kill the lot within 5 years! I do not have green…
