The bluefish were biting

It wasn’t a good day for a dozen bluefish that ended up on the end of our hooks during a short fishing expedition off Nantucket. It was a beautiful day, but it ended up in the cooler of a fishing boat for our catch.

For myself and two others on the boat, it was an enjoyable morning. The fish were biting.

Because it was late August, I knew the bluefish would be big. They did not disappoint. Once we set our hooks into the waters of a “hot area” known to our captain, the fish started to bite. No waiting or second-guessing the captain. He promised fish and delivered.

We were trolling — the boat moves slowly in the water giving the fish a moving target.

Once the fishing was over, we headed back to port. Once there, the captain spread our catch out on the cleaning table.
