I moved from Maine to Florida in 1973 and then to Georgia in 1976. During the five years I lived in Georgia, I mourned the loss of Florida’s skies and specifically Florida’s clouds. Georgia skies were a hazy Confederate blue or a dull ashy gray, day after day, and the sun would go missing for weeks.

I missed the fluffy marshmallow clouds of the Sunshine State. I missed the sunsets and sunrises painting the clouds as though they were canvases. I missed the warnings that appeared in dark towering storm clouds.

I missed the Clouds of Florida.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
