Colours of Fall — November 4, 2019
Only a gardener could take joy from the rotting vegetation that comes in the late fall, although it is the brilliant colours, not the rotting part that makes me happy.

We went out for a walk the other day and I was taken with how pretty the lacy leaves of the Locust trees looked sparsely scattered on the grass.

Nothing ever really translates completely in a photograph, but on a dull and overcast day our front garden seemed to be filled with colour, and I felt I should capture the look as we left for our walk.

The larger Hosta leaves in the photograph above have not turned completely — they are a tougher leafed variety. I liked the mottled look. The smaller Hosta leaves have completely turned.

The solid stand of deep gold Hosta along the front border of this garden are particularly striking.

I always marvel at the rich colours of the Silver Birch in the Fall. This one is particularly beautiful.

And last, back at our garden, the lovely Cut-Leaf Stephenandra shrub pushes aside the perennial Geranium leaves to show off its golden fall foliage. And last but not least, the Flowering Dogwood shows off its Fall look. You can see what the Spring flowers look like below.
