Kalanchoe Surprise!
Long-lasting indoor colour
I will say right off the top, that I am not much of a houseplant person.
We have two Spider plants which are in the kitchen window. I opted to show you just a closeup of the Spider plant flower, rather than the whole plant that currently looks pretty drab.
We also have one rather neglected and scraggly-looking Snake Plant. In the photo below you can see the Snake Plant in flower, a rare and always surprising occurrence.
The big plus with the Spider plants and Snake plants is that they require very little attention, and that works for me.
So, how did the bright and attractive Kalanchoe find its way into our home? We can thank a long and dreary Winter, and our local food market. One horrible, snowy shopping day and the Apple Market (where we shop) had a bunch of these small pots with pretty and bright flowering plants. Who could say no?
March 24, 2022, I picked one that was mostly buds, thinking that it would last longer that way. I decided to follow its flowering progress in photos. The latest one is at the top of this article.
My conclusion is that I may try to grow some Kalanchoe plants in pots outdoors this year, once it warms up a little.
