A simple flick of a switch, strike of a match, or plugged-in outlet can rescue an entire place from darkness. The reassuring glow of a well-lit space, even if it’s just a faint one around you, has always fascinated me. I began wanting to bottle up these ubiquitous traces in remembrance of their entirely mundane yet ethereal quality. Here we have a celebration of the things that light our way.

Not content with its own brilliance, light makes everything around it that much brighter. The falling snow alights in the depth of night, like a mini asteroid shower of fiery beauty. Its flightpath downward given a runway of illumination. Sometimes snapping something on a hunch produces the best results, right?

Zipping into motion, light outdoes us all when it comes to its marathon of electric effervescence. Darting across our sightlines, begging us to believe in the magic that makes it so. A ghostly luminescence we could never perceive with our own eyes, but can never forget once we do witness it, never allowing us to follow its trails that lead to some mystical light brigade that I imagine exists just beyond our understanding.

Twinkling through the midnight forests of our lives, the light never lets us forget its there, to the point where we takes its presence for granted. You turn out all the lights and see just how many people squeal, this common fear, reveals our reliance of and expectation to always have something gleaming our way out. Forging paths on unforgiving land, or merely making trodden ones easier to traverse.

The incandescence tucked away in all lights reminds me of that classic Robin Williams quote, “you’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.” Lights not only help me find my way, they also call on me to honor the light within myself.
