When it comes to the elaborate murals and distinct graffiti, few cities can match the provincial capital of Friesland, in the Netherlands.

Leeuwarden is a work of art, and this is by no means an exaggeration. It is a vibrant city and an open art gallery rolled into one. There are other major cities (across countries) that may have more street art to showcase, but Leeuwarden has a significant advantage over others.

The fact that the city is compact means the street art on offer seems more cohesive and pronounced. It’s anything but a surprise that Leeuwarden was awarded the title European Capital of Culture for 2018.

In fact, the street art scene in this city with a population of a little over 127,000 is to be seen to be believed, has grown significantly in recent years. In every nook and corner, there is something on offer for the probing eyes of a visitor.
