May the Creative Vibes Flow
Where I write
Thanks to Alto for the great prompt. I look forward to what others share and thoroughly enjoyed his piece. By the way, I’ll never look at my Dad’s John Deere mower the same again :-).
The picture above is my office in my house built in 1911. Lots of windows, house plants, an aquarium, and a couple of bird feeders outside. It’s cozy in here and where I write when the weather keeps me inside.
This is definitely the spot where I am most prolific. The screened in back porch of our home. If it’s 55 degrees or more I’m out here writing early in the morning. It stays dry during rain and fairly cool when hot. A connection to outside- my refuge since being a young kid- is vital to the flow of my creative vibes. The wife and I eat as many meals together here as possible. Very quiet too for being downtown.
The workbench in my cellar. Down here it’s about 58 degrees so I write in this spot sometimes if I want a cigar while I write and it’s too cold to be outside.
About three and a half years ago I made a commitment to writing every day. I worked through Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way. The best setting was a picnic table near water. This is on the property where I work. I spent many hours here or somewhere similar writing my morning pages and cultivating the discipline to eventually call myself a “writer.”
“Outside” is a sacred place for me. As a kid who moved a lot in a time when army men and dirt clods were my toys it sets my mind in motion. I often develop an idea that began on paper while walking and using my phone’s voice to text app.
