Searching for Inspiration at Berlin’s Museum of Photography | Part 1
Spoiler: there was plenty to be found.
I’m new to photography, relatively speaking. On trips abroad and in times gone by, I’ve dabbled in digital but since moving to Berlin, I’ve made a conscious effort to learn the ways of analog photography. To really understand what it takes to make a great photo. Or even a slightly above average one. I’m not fussy. On Saturday, that took me to Berlin’s Museum für Fotografie.
I recently came across the word ‘anemoia’ — a nostalgia for a time you’ve never known. It’s a beautiful sentiment, or a tragic one, depending on how you interpret it. Anyway, I’ve always had a fascination with the ’70s and ’80s culture in the States, and when I saw the museum’s current exhibitions — Helmut Newton, Stephan Erfurt, Evelyn Hofer, Joel Meyerowitz — I couldn’t resist. Frankly, I couldn’t name a photo from any but I know they’re big names and I was in the market for a little inspiration. So, let’s take a virtual walking tour. Note: this will be split across 2 parts.
