SNAPSHOTS Mini Challenge

summer is …

Since, according to the calendar anyway, we are officially into the summer season, I thought it would be interesting to see the images people create when the common theme is summer. It’s a challenge that gives you a lot of leeway regarding type and style of your images. Maybe start with a few questions. Like, are there things, events, or symbolic images that have a quintessential summer vibe? What images can you curate that best express your relationship to summer?

The Rules

  1. In one or several photographs, show us up to 10 images that offer a view of the summer season from the perspective of how you experience it.
  2. Please include a short narrative for each image. Please make sure your total narrative for all items does not exceed 400 words in total, inclusive of title and subtitle.
  3. Please include a title of your choosing.
  4. Please include the subtitle summer is.
  5. Please place title and subtitle UNDER your first photo.

Please include the tags photography and summer, and any others you wish to include.

While the mini challenge was originally intended to have a 24 hour window, we’ve found that to be prohibitive for many writers. Because of that our mini challenges will always remain open ended with no time limitations.

As always, my entry follows below with a few examples.

Christie Pitts Outdoor Pool Toronto
Riverdale Pool, Toronto

Having spent most of my life around water or a pool, and life guarding every summer during my teens and early twenties, outdoor pools have always made me think of the humid days and nights of an Ontario summer.

The image at the top of this piece is a typical summer morning where I live. Above, our summer sunsets.

Summer is the patio of my favorite Toronto bistro.

Summer is cottages and docks.

Summer is late afternoon light reflected in flowers.

Summer is the natural cooling provided by a stone home in sweltering heat.

Participation

This challenge is open to anyone with an active Medium account. Not yet a writer for us? Here is a link to our SNAPSHOT information page.
