breakfast . .

For summer breakfasts, my husband often makes me a bowl of fresh fruit — strawberries, bananas, blackberries, and blueberries. The coffee we drink is a blend that Ben prepares. He uses several different types of ground coffee — Colombian, Amaretto, Honduran, French Roast, and Hazelnut — and combines them to create his own blend. We have coffee three days and mate cosido one day. Mate cosido is a tea made from yerba mate leaves that come from a plant grown in South American.

At least one or two days during the week, we get pastries of our favorite bakery. My pastry of choice is a fresh fruit tart:

In the winter, my breakfast may be instant oatmeal or Cream of Rice. Sometimes I make muffins or coffee cake.

And, for special occasions, Ben makes torta fritas, which are always the breakfast choice of our grandchildren. Torta fritas are fried dough sprinkled with sugar. Delicious but not even a slight bit healthy!
