Autumn’s palette steadily evolves
Hues of green morph to yellow and gold
Ardent reds punctuate the scene
Stunning symphonies of color so bold

Then one day you discern hints of humdrum
Tones of chartreuse, not brilliant anymore
Tiptops of the trees beginning to bare
Shades of russet where vivid reds were before

Indian Summer goes, comes, and goes again
Winds dismantle nature’s tarnished crown
That day is here when leaf flurries begin
Nature’s tapestry dispatched to the ground

A sign that it’s time to dress like the Norse
Swapping the tee shirts, flipflops, and shorts
For hats, coats, and boots to play winter sports
Gray skies, snow flies, pumpkin pies, and snow forts!
