I am not famous for having green fingers. Far from that in fact. I’m associated with killing plants than resurrecting them.

When students gave me this orchid as a thank you gift last October, it was in full bloom. I feared the day those flowers would drop, knowing its days were numbered, given my reputation.

Instead, it seemed to regain a new lease on life! My two ice cubes a week and a spot in full sunlight seemed to be working a charm.

I took out my iPhone 11 and photographed its reincarnation.

Finally, one ‘baby’ bloomed! I was ecstatic. Maybe it was because I had named her Orchy and started talking to her that she was feeling the love?

Were my plant murder days over?

Another week passed and 4/5 blooms were now out.

Orchy had a near-death experience when the menacing kitty leapt onto the adjacent wall to catch a fly. Orchy — and the fly — went flying!

My baby — nooo!!!

Thankfully, Orchy survived and is now in full bloom!

And she is very pretty.

The kitty? That’s for another photographic story.
