The Trentsetting River in Town
Nottingham, a beautiful city in the East Midlands, was built as a fortress on the southern bank of the river Trent
The photograph above highlights one of my favorite locations. Taking a walk along the River Trent, photographing Trent Bridge and the surroundings, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, doing little else, is one of the simple pleasures that makes living life an experience in itself. In many ways, this is a Trentsetting river—the pun is entirely intended.
After The River Severn and the River Thames, the Trent is the third-longest river in the United Kingdom. The river passes through many towns in Staffordshire before making its way into Nottinghamshire, where on reaching West Bridgford, it flows beneath Trent Bridge, an iron and stone road bridge that enjoys heritage status.
It may not be as high-profile as London, but Nottingham is, without an iota of a doubt, my favorite city in England. For starters, it is considerably less populated. Secondly, it is at a very convenient location, a little over 100 miles from London. Finally, it packs in a lot.
