Thrift-Covered Cliffs on the Isle of Man
Haiku
The last rays of day
Light rock to match thrift blossoms
Each clings to life’s cycle
Behind me, as I capture this scene, the peace and serenity of this island is shattered by the sound of thousands of motorbikes. It’s the week of the annual TT races, a motorcycle race run over a 37.73 mile circuit on the normal roads and streets of the island, closed for the purpose.
Over 40,000 fans, most of them bikers themselves, descend on the island to swell the population by almost 50%.
The event takes place over 2 weeks in June, starting with practice week and continuing into race week. This isn’t a race to earn a mint and the danger is so great from speeds in excess of 200mph that the cost could be a competitor’s life. The aim is to be crowned King of the Mountain and become part of the legend that is the TT races.
